Sustainability
Our Approach
At Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), sustainability is grounded in a commitment to the three core pillars of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). We recognize that the integration and success of these pillars are essential to fulfilling our core mandate: the reliable generation of electricity for the nation. This commitment is pursued with a strong emphasis on maintaining a balanced and responsible relationship with the environment, our people, and the communities we serve.
Understanding the significance of ESG to long-term sustainability, ZPC has adopted international standards to guide its operations. These are implemented under our overarching philosophy of an Integrated Management System (IMS).
ZPC’s Integrated Management System brings together several internationally recognized standards to support continuous improvement across all facets of our operations. The IMS is built on the following key standards:
- ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management System
Ensures consistent delivery of products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. - ISO 45001:2018 – Occupational Health and Safety Management System
Focuses on improving employee safety, reducing workplace risks, and creating better, safer working conditions. - ISO 14001:2015 – Environmental Management System
Supports environmental performance through efficient resource use and waste reduction. - ISO 31000:2018 – Risk Management Guidelines
Provides a structured approach to identifying and managing risk across the organization.
To further enhance our sustainability practices, ZPC also integrates the principles of:
- ZWS 992:2019 – HIV and Wellness Management System
Promotes employee health and wellness as a foundation for productivity and social responsibility. - ISO 50001 – Energy Management System
Helps optimize energy performance and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
ZPC has proudly maintained ISO certification since 2018, reflecting our ongoing commitment to operational excellence and sustainable development.

“Committed to going beyond meeting the needs and expectations of the customer.”
At Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), we are committed to exceeding the expectations of our customers and all internal and external stakeholders. Our primary mandate is the generation of electrical power for the nation, and this responsibility is driven by a deep understanding of national needs.
Listening to our customers has inspired us to undertake major infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing national electricity supply. Key among these are the Hwange Expansion Project and the Kariba Expansion Project, which have collectively increased ZPC’s installed generation capacity to 2,640 MW—a significant step toward energy security and national development.
