In 1955, a dam was constructed across the Zambezi River at the Kariba Gorge to provide power for both Zimbabwe and Zambia. Despite numerous challenges, including record-breaking floods, the Zambezi River was successfully dammed three years later, leading to the formation of Lake Kariba.

HWANGE EXPANSION PROJECT
In August 2018, ZPC officially embarked on an expansion project at Hwange Power Station, marking the addition of a third stage to the facility. The two new 300MW units were officially commissioned on the 3rd of August 2023 by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde. Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, after successfully securing a USD 998 million loan from China Exim Bank.

Munyati Power Station is situated five kilometers off the Harare-Bulawayo Road at the 183-kilometre peg. Built in stages between 1946 and 1957, the thermal station originally had a capacity of 120MW but currently operates at a capacity of 100MW.
